The Essence of Chi in Leadership (ECL) is to stage a set direction, be influential role models, effective communicators, realistic, proactive, bring out the best in people and to have the ability to make choices in times of crisis. The ECL systems provide us ways to access our creative abilities even in stressful and conflicting circumstances. The ECL model includes distinct ways of explaining and questioning how we behave in stressful and conflicting situations. Using ECL skills, we dissect our normal behaviours, examine the way we sit and stand, and learn how to shift our state of being so we can give more skilful responses in our quest of uniting mind, body and chi.

ESSENCE OF CHI IN LEADERSHIP

Mr Vincent Leo has been working with leaders and in the leadership area for over two decades.

Mr Vincent Leo is the founder of Essence of Chi in Leadership which is a process that uses two principles. One principle being from the non-violent Chinese martial art of Tai Chi Chuan and the other a violent art of Southern Tong Long Kung Fu. These principles of mindfulness offer simple tools and practices to increase leadership capacity and respond to stress and pressure with greater confidence and integrity.

LEVEL 1 – PREPARE FOR CHANGE

This Level offers participants an introduction to ECL, language, practices and principles.
“Nothing changes unless you change.”
How do you do that?
• You must desire something, whatever it is that isn’t working, for you to change.
• Your journey through the essence of chi, starts with becoming aware of all what’s happening in our bodies and surroundings.
• How you evolve is based on asking whether “you” are choosing to make changes in your life.
To find your way through any kind of change, you must explore who-you-are-becoming. This is one of the most important pivots you can make as you navigate any transition in your life.

What to expect?

The classes are interactive and social in design, based around simple physical exercises that apply light pressure to assist in recognising the patterns that arise when we are experiencing intense situations. Drawn from many insights, plus a martial art concept of yin and yang influenced by TONG LONG (YANG/yin form) TAI CHI (YIN/yang form) and weaponry. Once familiar with the movements Dan tian (Being Centred) practices are applied to assist in shifting to a more inspired, feeling and skilful state.

No matter what you are creating with your life, it’s likely you are moving through at least one or more changes. It could be changes in your relationships, health, spiritual life, family, home, finances – the list goes on.
In class participants work in pairs, where learning exercises are broken down to form a lasting imprint in the body. Individual debrief and group discussions create a self-motivated learning environment where you will learn to shift to an open mindful (being centred) state while under pressure.

Introduces you to The Levels of Belief Systems:

A little history….

Every political movement, religion or philosophy has its beginning in the confident expression of a single belief.
The more attention drawn by it, the more often it is repeated – “stay away from the Brown snake or he might try to bite you,” or “you will never amount to anything, if you keep that up.”
When the belief is repeated, it spreads and acquires the status of knowledge. As knowledge, it can be used to support further beliefs.
Examples being:
• “It’s not safe in the bush.” But WHY? “Brown snakes live there.”
• “Having fun and fooling around is very childish.” But WHY? “You will never amount to anything.”

Thus the belief system grows and expands and the bodies of knowledge begin to appear.

Belief systems seem to be a natural part of the evolutionary process, however, do they arise from a situation needing a solution or do they create a situation that needs a solution? Is the bush dangerous due to the brown snake or due to the beliefs about snakes? Is fooling around and having fun going to affect the future or is it the beliefs about fooling around and having fun? Do the expectations placed upon the snake’s behaviour communicate a non-verbal suggestion to the snake or person as to how he/she should behave? Is there a behind the scenes communication among creatures and humans that choreographs their interactions in accord with some resolution or expectations created by their beliefs?

Unfortunately, before the general population had a chance to ask those questions, someone discovered that belief systems were valuable. As long as people could be made to feel a need for them, they could be traded for food, shelter or safety. HOW TO DEAL WITH SNAKES AND BEHAVIOURS. To be continued at the workshop…

Completion of Level 1 is required as a prerequisite to all other courses.

LEVEL 2 – PATHWAYS

This level builds on the foundation of Level 1 and assists participants to develop the practices in a variety of situations. Our sense of safety guides our actions – ‘will I survive here?’ Every time you repeat to yourself something that isn’t working, you create a familiar loop, a neuro pathway you can always count on.

These are pathways along which information travels through the neurons (nerve cells) of the brain. This can be compared with the paths through a forest. As people keep taking the same route through a forest, they wear out the path.

You will be introduced to practices which include working with long wooden sticks, push hand techniques, tendon, sinews and connective tissue training to strengthen the body and to focus your mind to access greater inspiration to address encounters with ease.

Knowing the language and principles of the ECL model allows for greater insights into the way stressors affect the body. Discover how muscle groups tighten or extend releasing various chemicals. Discover how these chemicals change the way your mind thinks, and body feels which then leads to the way you respond/react to drama and trauma. Discover how diet and hormonal changes can affect performance and behaviours.

LEVEL 3 – DISCOVER THE WARRIOR WITHIN

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”
― Maya Angelou

This level builds on the foundation of Level 1 and 2 courses. Level 3 – “Discover the Warrior Within”, offers participants an opportunity to further expand oneself. The course content will look at personal relationships with money, food and intimacy, along with how we compete, listen and function from exclusion.

The two days will also involve expanding on the techniques of sitting and standing meditation, along with ECL partner exercises. Participants will discover that the reflection of the journey is fundamental to their well-being and determines what questions need to be asked in order to go within.

Exercises extend to working with the second form of the wooden practice stick, being aware of no breath without movement and no movement without breath. Participants will be tested when confronted with two and three person attacks, whether to contact with or without the wooden practice stick demonstrates how participants will respond or react to being confronted. How do we experience and manage toxicity – be it emotional or environmental? Recognise the door where there is no door. Space within where there is no space. The gate where there is no gate. This is the beginning of finding the “Warrior Within”.

Being a warrior is not about the act of fighting. It’s about the ability, courage and responsibility to end the conflict within oneself and not quit until the job is done. It’s being aware of unresolved conflict within your home, relationships, neighbourhood, business, country, or reality. Warriors understand that they must start from within oneself and build their chi outward. They know that by mastering the conflict within themselves, they can make the greatest difference in their reality.

What will you get from the 2 days?

You will be challenged and have the breaks only a warrior would take on. You are capable of more than you ever thought. This is what a true warrior stands for and it is what you are capable of being; if you so choose. The level extends to you an invitation to meet your true self within these two days and explore the adventure that is your life. There are challenges, however for the warrior, there are opportunities to see how far you can go and what you are absolutely capable of being.

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
― Rumi

RETREAT – DESIGNING YOUR LIFE – INTENSIVE (5 Days)

The reality we live in is far more than we see, feel and touch.

Mr Vincent Leo, the founder of Essence of Chi in Leadership (ECL) will be leading all retreats. The retreats are an opportunity to play together with the group for more intensive practice of the ECL work. Participants will be residing together where the group will expand using the container of self-inquiry and group support.

We will be looking at an openness to a larger worldview which sees individuals as whole people, rather than a set of behavioural attributes, opens a greater sense of choice and possibility inherent in each moment and relationship. Allowing you have deeper self-awareness, balance, harmony and responsiveness which go beyond many of the formulaic approaches taught in leadership books and courses.

This intensive retreat involves various meditation techniques, ECL principles and basic martial arts of Tai chi and Tong Long partner exercises. Mr Leo will give guided meditation instruction. Paired ECL exercises are often practiced in silence with a 15 min meditation before group discussions.

You must complete Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 courses before attending a retreat.
